Default Towels and Pillows

When people are packing for a trip, especially for a long one, space in the bags is always an issue. To save space some basic stuff is always left behind. And most of the time it's towels and pillows. The reason behind this is simple - there is always both of them available at the hotel. But is that really the best choice?

You can never tell what the person before you did with the towel. Maybe he used it to dry up the bathroom floor before he left? Even though hotels do wash towels (along with other stuff) you can't tell if that washing was really sufficient and what else might have been included in the wash. An example is a hotel where I overheard that the towels are being washed at the same time with some other stuff that certainly shouldn't be there.

On the other hand pillows and washing follow the same story, with the exception that pillows are probably not washed often - only periodically. That makes it even worse as you really don't know what is in that pillow after 15 different persons slept on it only last month.

Not to mention that you definitely have no idea what ultimate piece of crap pillow you will get. We are all used to our own pillows and being forced to sleep for a longer time on a pillow that we're not used to can lead to many problems, including insomnia, various aches, and a lot of frustration and stress.

Always consider at least some extra space for your own towel(s) and pillow. Especially if you're going for a trip that will last for more than a few days. You won't regret it and you won't have to suffer as I did in a hotel last night. Thanks to God, I'm there only for two nights.
